Please provide a few sentences to sum up the most important aspects of your App.

Description:

RunTheDale is a mobile application that will help promote the health of students and local residents by making exercise both a convenient and exciting experience.   It will serve as a portal for the Carbondale running community to find new places to go running, as well as allow users to communicate and schedule group runs.  In addition, it will provide an easy way for SIU sports teams or fitness groups to communicate and schedule workouts.

Please provide a description of your App in 500-1,000 words. Be sure to include at least 1) what it does, 2) why people will want it (benefits), and 3) how you will sustain it (explain business model).

The app will focus on three main features:

·      Listings of popular places to run/jog in Southern Illinois and Carbondale

·      Listings of upcoming runs, walks and marathons in the area

·      A social “RunBuddy” feature that will allow users to reach out and organize group runs with other local runners/teammates.

(I plan on adding more features to RunTheDale, but for the initial release I want to focus on those listed above.)

Running Locations  - This section will feature a list of popular running locations around Carbondale and Southern Illinois.  Users will be able to select where they want to run based on the information listed about each location.   They will also be able to filter locations based on criteria such as: distance from current location, total run trail distance, and how difficult the terrain is.   Eventually I would like to implement the ability for users to create and add their own custom running trails to share with others.

Some examples of running locations:  Campus Lake trail, Old High School track, Rec Center track, GreenEarth trail, Arboretum Trail, Campus loop.

·      Name of Location

·      A static map of the running trail/ location

·      Terrain Difficulty

·      Loop - Y/N

·      Distance from user’s current location

·      Photos of location

Upcoming Races Near Me  - This section will feature a list of upcoming marathons, races, benefit walks, and other running events in Southern Illinois.  Each race would have it’s own page with race details, pictures, and information on how to sign up.  This page would be updated regularly, and its use will likely increase signups for each advertised race.

In addition to an event listing, I eventually would like to implement a way for marathon organizers to register their event with RunTheDale and users allow sign up through our mobile application.   This registration would include a fee to the marathon organizers, for which we would offer services to them such as: instant race times for users of the app, a database with all relevant sign up information, in-app advertisement for associated organizations.  (more on this in the revenue section)

·      Race date / Details

·      Registration fee

·      Organizations involved

·      **Portal to sign up for races

RunBuddy – This section will bring an innovative social aspect to RunTheDale called RunBuddy.  Users will be able to create a profile that can be linked to their Facebook account.  They can list a little information about their running goals, fastest mile, availability, etc.  Users will then be able to message other runners and schedule times to meet up and run together.  There will also be a RunBuddy group page where users can create groups that meet once, weekly, or as their schedule permits.

For actual SIU sports teams, we would set up private RunBuddy groups where team members can communicate and schedule their practices/workouts.

The safety of our users and the security of their information will be of utmost priority.  There will be warnings, suggestions, and tips within the app to steer users away from situations that may be unsafe.

Examples:  Don’t run at night.  Try to run in a public location if you’re running with someone you don’t know.  Report any suspicious behavior to local authorities and report a user’s account.  Always stay hydrated while running to avoid exhaustion and dehydration.  Etc.

I hope that this feature will help people achieve their workout goals together and create friendships within the running community.

·      Profile, linked to Facebook for verification

-      Name:

-      Short Bio:

-      Fastest Mile:

-      Longest Distance:

-      Availability:

·      Available for Run Now

·      Group Run Sign Up

Revenue

RunTheDale will generate revenue in two ways:  Advertisement, and Registration fees.

Advertisement- We will offer paid in-app advertisement for local businesses and organizations affiliated with races.  Eventually we will partner up with health food and fitness brands to do cross-promotion and sponsorships for events.

Registration Fees - From a marathon organizers perspective, signing their race on with RunTheDale will give them access to information about the race participants as well as make their sign up process easier and more efficient.   We would be able to generate different analytics for the race to allow organizers to make their events better in the future.

Growth

Potential growth includes:

·      Spreading to other universities around the state/country

·      Adding newand  more unique features to distinguish our app from competitors

·      Hosting and organizing our own races around the country

·      Creating and selling merchandise
